Cork School of Music Project – Chilling / Dehumidifying and Rejected Heat Recovery
Original system prior to the MasterTherm heat pump retrofit
- 320 m2 detached house with underfloor heating and radiators
- Originally heated by a oil boiler located in garage
- Heat controlled by timers and thermostats
Oil boiler was originally located in the garage, separate from the house. Considering the age of the pipework and it’s insulation, avoiding pipework heat losses was an obvious option.
Solution with MasterTherm heat pump
- Heat pump type: 1 x BoxAir 45i – New facelift type
- Heating output: 22 kW
- SCOP heating: 4.3
Heat pump ( our new 2020 facelift model) was installed on the back of the house and new pipework was brought in to the attic through a house soffit. New domestic hot water storage tank and low loss header installed above the UFH manifold. Heating zones were separated and flow rates of each heating/cooling zones optimised.
House is being heated at constant temperature of 20 Degrees. As requested by client heat pump also features with cooling via UFH option. Heat pump room terminals monitor room temperature, humidity and cooling water temperature allowing cooling via UFH and avoiding condensation withing the floor area. Existing hot water cylinder continue being used for existing solar panel tubes as a “preheat” tank , increasing benefits of “free” domestic hot water heating.
Client has online access via app. System is connected to the internet. Client thus benefits with a 7 Year warranty on the entire heat pump system.
The underfloor heating part of the house is controlled by an electronic mixing valve controlled on an outdoor and indoor temperature bases, minimising cycling of heat pump thus maximising efficiency and COP.
