Company Overview
MasterTherm Ireland provides design-led, low-carbon HVAC solutions for commercial and domestic buildings, including heat pumps, commercial plant-room systems, cascades, heat-recovery AHUs, MHRV, BMS integration, technical design support, equipment supply, commissioning, monitoring, maintenance and after-sales service.
We work with consulting engineers, M&E contractors, developers, public bodies, facilities teams and building owners.
Role Overview
The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation and commercial performance of MasterTherm Ireland. Reporting to the Company Board, the role will translate strategy into business plans, budgets, departmental objectives, systems and measurable results.
The General Manager will coordinate technical, commercial, project, service, finance, administration and logistics functions, ensuring clear ownership, deadlines, scope, cost control and customer communication throughout the full project lifecycle.
Technical and Operational Authority
The General Manager will have overall authority for company operations and commercial performance but will not replace the Technical Director or personally undertake detailed HVAC design.
The General Manager will be accountable for profitability, cash flow, staffing, resources, operations, project/service delivery, commercial control, customer experience and Board reporting.
The Technical Director will retain authority for technical design standards, product application, HVAC design principles, technical risk, engineering approvals, product development, technical training and final technical decisions on complex systems.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership and Operations
- Translate Board strategy into annual operating plans and clear departmental objectives.
- Allocate resources according to priorities, capacity and profitability.
- Standardise workflows from enquiry through quotation, ordering, delivery, commissioning, handover and service.
- Introduce practical SOPs, approvals and clear handovers.
- Establish task ownership, improve document control and forward planning.
- Identify operational risks and resolve recurring problems.
- Provide accurate and timely management information to the Board.
Financial and Commercial Management
- Prepare budgets and cash-flow forecasts.
- Monitor revenue, gross margin, operating costs, profitability and working capital.
- Review management accounts, project profitability, overheads, stock, debtors and supplier commitments.
- Ensure invoices, variations and chargeable work are processed correctly.
- Introduce pricing, credit and approval controls.
- Review sales pipeline, forecasts, quotations and conversion.
- Focus resources on suitable and profitable opportunities.
- Coordinate business development, technical consultancy and sales.
- Ensure quotations clearly define scope, exclusions, responsibilities and terms.
- Review major tenders, frameworks and strategic accounts.
- Manage major customer escalations and commercial risk.
Project Delivery
- Ensure every order receives a structured internal handover.
- Confirm technical/commercial scope and customer responsibilities.
- Establish programmes, milestones and risk controls.
- Monitor factory orders, lead times, technical information and deliveries.
- Coordinate technical, project, logistics and service resources.
- Ensure commissioning is scheduled only when installations are ready.
- Control variations, delays, costs and margin.
- Ensure project and handover documentation is completed and projects formally closed.
Service and After-Sales
- Develop an organised, responsive and commercially sustainable service function.
- Plan service and commissioning capacity.
- Introduce pre-commissioning readiness and escalation procedures.
- Improve remote monitoring and diagnostics.
- Monitor response times, outstanding issues, warranty costs and repeat faults.
- Develop spare-parts and preventative-maintenance strategies.
- Ensure reports and chargeable work are completed and invoiced promptly.
Logistics and Suppliers
- Coordinate forecasts, stock requirements and project demand.
- Establish suitable stock levels and prevent unnecessary purchasing.
- Monitor factory production, shipment dates and delivery reliability.
- Maintain accurate inventory, serial-number and equipment tracking.
- Manage project equipment, spares, returns and warranty components.
- Improve warehouse stock control and H&S.
- Maintain strong relationships with MasterTherm, ATREA and approved suppliers.
- Monitor lead times, order accuracy and supplier performance.
- Escalate recurring product, delivery or warranty issues.
- Coordinate training, new-product introduction and factory visits.
People and Organisation
- Implement the approved company structure and reporting lines.
- Recruit for approved roles and establish structured onboarding.
- Set objectives and hold regular performance reviews.
- Identify training and succession requirements.
- Address performance or conduct issues professionally.
- Encourage cooperation between departments.
- Develop future managers and technical specialists.
- Create a culture of accountability, respect, technical quality and customer service.
Systems, Reporting and Governance
- Establish consistent use of CRM, project, service, accounting and inventory systems.
- Improve data quality and maintain accurate customer, project, equipment and pipeline information.
- Develop KPI dashboards and concise management reports.
- Identify opportunities for automation.
- Maintain document control, data security and access permissions.
- Ensure contracts and significant POs are reviewed before acceptance.
- Monitor commercial, operational, legal, safety and reputational risks.
- Support H&S, refrigerant safety, GDPR and information-security compliance.
- Manage significant complaints and escalate material risks to the Board.
First 12 Months – Key Priorities
- Implement the organisation structure, reporting lines and priority recruitment.
- Establish operational, financial and performance reviews.
- Standardise the project lifecycle from enquiry through service.
- Improve budgeting, forecasting, margin reporting, credit control and cash-flow visibility.

Operational: on-time ordering/delivery, project milestones, commissioning performance, handover accuracy and overdue tasks.
Service: response/resolution times, outstanding cases, warranty cost and repeat faults.
People: recruitment, retention, training, performance reviews and productivity.
Customer/Quality: customer satisfaction, complaints, documentation quality and corrective actions.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced operational and commercial leader from HVAC, building services, renewable energy, M&E contracting, construction products, technical distribution, engineering services, manufacturing, facilities or energy services.
They do not need to be a heat pump design engineer but must have sufficient technical understanding to work credibly with engineers, contractors, manufacturers and customers.

- Strong people-management, communication and problem-solving ability.
- Confidence working with and reporting to a Company Board.
- Full driving licence.
Desirable experience includes the Irish HVAC/building-services market, commercial heat pumps, ventilation, plant rooms, M&E contractors, service/commissioning, logistics, overseas manufacturers and CRM/ERP systems.

Authority and Decision-Making
Within Board-approved budgets and authority levels, the General Manager should be able to make routine operational decisions, allocate resources, recruit approved positions, manage employee performance, approve expenditure, negotiate supplier/customer arrangements, implement procedures, set objectives and resolve operational issues.
Board approval should remain required for company strategy, annual budgets, significant capital expenditure, major borrowing, material contractual commitments, senior executive appointments, ownership/structural changes and major strategic partnerships.
