Scoil Thomáis (Castleknock, Dublin 15)
Project Overview
Scoil Thomáis undertook a comprehensive upgrade to deliver dependable space heating and hygienic hot water across classrooms and support areas—aligned with the Department of Education’s Pathfinder programme for low-carbon schools. The brief: higher comfort, lower running costs, and simple day-to-day control.
Scope of Works
- 4 × MasterThermBA60i inverter air-to-water heat pumps (space heating)
- 1 × MasterThermAQ40ZHX high-temperature heat pump (DHW)
- Zoned LTHW distribution to classroom blocks and admin areas
- Dedicated DHW for washrooms, staff/kitchen, and janitorial points
- Integrated MasterTherm controls with energy tracking and remote access
System Description
- The BA60i cascade modulates continuously to match real-time load, maintaining low-temperature regimes (e.g.,45/35 °C LTHW) for high seasonal efficiency.
- The AQ40ZHX serves DHW up to~75 °C, with DHW-priority logic and weekly anti-legionella pasteurisation scheduling.
- A PLC-based platform manages time schedules, weather compensation, buffer temperature, and fault diagnostics—no third-party BMS required.
Project Results & Benefits
- Consistent comfortin teaching spaces with responsive zoning.
- Hygienic hot wateron demand at critical points.
- Smarter energy usevia schedules, night/weekend setback, and remote optimisation.
Lower carbon footprint through a fully electric, renewable solution.
