Ballybunion Community Centre

This community centre is located by the sea in Co.Kerry. The original heating system consisted of condensing LPG boiler serving UFH throughout the building as well as providing domestic hot water for kitchen and WC basins. The proximity of the leisure centre to the coast increased efficiency as average air temperatures in coastal areas is generally higher than inland areas.

As air source heat pumps are exposed to aggressive salty air, increased corrosion can be an issue for many manufacturers. Some try to solve this issue by applying a protective coating to condensers. This offers a limited time protection ( 3000 – 5000 hours) to some but not all key components of the heat pump. We in MasterTherm believe in a more long term solution. Uniquely, our split units, have the all important and sensitive components including the compressor, controls etc. located in a sound proofed indoor unit. Outdoor unit consists only of an evaporator in a powder coated cabinet with aluminium frame and hermetically sealed fan with plastic propellers. This solution increases the efficiency of the entire system and also protects clients from issues such as early part replacement. The outdoor space to locate the plant was also an issue on this site. Because of our split range option, we were able to meet the tight clearances required in this scenic area.

We in MasterTherm, are very proud of the wide range of heat pump solutions we design and build for multiple applications. Our indoor split heat pump modification was therefore an obvious choice for this project. The outdoor unit is located inside the plant room. Air supply and exhaust to the evaporator is supplied via ducting, leaving only a couple of seamless levers on the outside wall.

The system was also installed with our unique desuperheater which provide high temperature domestic hot water without compromising the efficiency ( COP ) of the heat pump.
