Air-to-Water Heat Pump

The principle of an air-to-water heat pump

An air to water heating system consists of an outdoor unit (evaporator with a fan) that moves the air trough aluminium fins ( similar to a car radiator) from which is the heat energy is removed ( absorbed into refrigerant temperature) Refrigerant gas is then compressed and high temperature is exchanged from refrigerant to heating water. The indoor unit, located in the building, ensures the production of heating and hot water.

Find answers to your questions on air to water heat pumps

The average heating factor of an air-to-water heat pump system throughout the heating season does not differ much from that of a ground-to-water pump system. This is because the air is warmer than the ground at the beginning and end of the heating season. Financially, you save only about €80 / year more on a family house with an average heat loss with a ground-to-water heat pump than with an air-to-water type. However, the investment difference can be up to €4,000 due to the price of wells.

The outdoor unit must be located in an open area with good air flow. An important parameter is that the cooled air does not return. This would create a loop that would significantly reduce the efficiency and performance of the heat pump. The optimal location is on the south, sunny side of the house, either on the facade, on the roof or free-standing outside the building. The distance between the outdoor and indoor unit is a maximum of 15 meters.

The output of the MasterTherm air-to-water heat pump is designed for 100% of the house’s heat loss. In addition, each installation includes a backup electric boiler.

Key factors influencing savings achieved

The basic three factors affect how much you can expect to save with a heat pump

technology inverter

1. Heat pump lifespan

Heat pump systems must be correctly commissioned according to the heat loss of the building. MasterTherm’s online control system in combination with the latest parts and components from leading manufacturers, installed in a robust and practical design, allows us to offer a 7-year warranty on all parts of the heat pump.

Last but not least, professional assembly by certified professionals, proactive routine maintenance and the availability of spare parts from the European production plan is essential.

Unique Feature Desuper

2. Coefficient of Performance (COP)

The higher the temperature at the heat pump inlet and the lower the temperature at the heat pump outlet, the higher the efficiency. This is the “holy grail” of all heat pump systems. Domestic hot water heating is therefore usually the least efficient circuit of every heat pump system.

However this doesn’t have to be the case with the use of a Desuperheater.

To increase efficiency, we supply a desuperheater, ie a device integrated in a heat pump, designed for efficient hot water heating. Hot water is heated at high temperature while the compressor is running, as a “by-product” of the building’s heating. DHW tank water temperature often reaches temperatures up to 80 ° C. Domestic hot water tank is therefore sanitised from legionaries bacteria without using any additional heat sources such as immersion.

technology regulation

3. System solution

MasterTherm heat pumps are designed and equipped with hardware and software to work as a complete heating system, not only as a heat source.

There is therefore no need to buy expensive additional components, such as secondary control systems, thermostats, UFH actuators, Etc. Everything you need is included in the price of the equipment, in one functional unit. Reliable installation by accredited installers ensures the system potential is fully realised and optimised on site for the client’s needs and preferences.

Meet the best-selling and most efficient heat pump

Save up to 70% on energy

Our air-to-water heat pump offers continuous regulation of heating output via the electronic expansion valve, variable speed fan and circulation pumps. The combination of these top-notch technologies reduces energy consumption by up to 20% compared to other heat pumps.
